WALK A MILE FOR MENTAL HEALTH AT ABERDARE

8th of October 2009

The Walking Event was held on October 8th 2009 at Aberdare Park,

Aberdare and was a great opportunity to raise some funds.

The mile could be walked, run, cycled, skateboarded or whatever you fancy.

There was fancy dress and a prize for the best dressed. It was a fantastic

day for everyone and alot of money was raised for mental health.

Councillor Mike Forey, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services,

said: “Mental ill health can affect anyone at anytime,

so it is really important that people get behind this worthy

cause and raise awareness of mental illness.” See the photographs below

MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING

On Tuesday 13th October between 11 AM and 1 PM New Horizons opened its doors to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Charity by joining in the “Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning”.

In total 25 people turned up to support the successful event. Alison’s Pantry Mill Street - Trecynon kindly donated plenty of welsh cakes and Jam splits. Which we all agreed were delicious. The kind staff and service users also donated cakes and biscuits.

The volunteers and service users also took to the street to sell the remaining cakes which helped raise mental health awareness too. In total selling cakes and biscuits raised £26.90 for Macmillan Cancer which was great. Everyone joined in with the spirit of the day and bought raffle tickets.

The first prize of a cut and blow dry from Clare at Glam Hair, Cardiff St, Aberdare. which was won by timebank volunteer Gaynor Jenkins who was “delighted”, Service users Donna Mckendley, Anne Davies and volunteer Les Gouch won smaller prizes. The raffle raised £26.00 which was split between New Horizons and Macmillan Cancer. The day in total raised £62.80p and more importantly was enjoyed by all. New Horizons would sincerely like to thank Claire from Glam Hair and Mr & Mrs Howells for their generosity.
